The Brazilian team has long been the symbol of the most prolific football players. And whenever you hear Brazil will be playing a match, it was really all about samba-ing with the ball, with a great recurring football artistic talents, generations after generations, cups after cups. Every Brazil fans, every honest football fans will undoubtedly recall that Brazil is the only team who will produce nifty moves and fancy dribbles whatever the results is; in the likes of evergreen players like kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (the one), Denilson de Oliveira Araujo, Rivaldo, Rober Carlos, Kafu, Edmilson, Romario, Bebeto, Dunga, Taffarel, Jorginho and Pele.

But since the last world cups, specially losing down to France twice, one in 1998 and the last one as recently as in the 2006 world cups, Brazil seemed to have suddenly lost all its brilliance and magical samba football. You could remember that the 2006 squad was very rich in talents, but somehow a big thing was missing: driving force. Where is the Brazilian driving force who would not care about defense and just attacking, dribbling and scoring for whatever it takes? Brazil was/is clearly on an effective stylish talented football playing crisis.

After 2006, the coaching stick was left in the famous Brazilian defensive midfielder who won the 1994 World Cup, namely Dunga. And he was also supported with the arrival of Jorginho as his assistant (who was also Dunga’s team-mate for their winning cups). There could not be a better coaching team for ‘la seleção‘. But to the great dismay of everyone, Dunga revamped the Brazilian squad. His philosophy is more aimed on producing a winning team, than continuing the essence of Brazilian football. Dunga was actually shaping a more defensive Brazilian squad, something which has never ever been done in the past.

Brazilian and Inter-Milan star, Maicon confirmed in a recent (June 11 2010) press conference that the new philosophy of Brazil and hence the new aim of Brazil is: “We, the new brazil squad, are more focused on winning a sixth World Cup in South Africa than maintaining the stylish legacy of our predecessors.”

This would suggest that Dunga, who is well-known for his tenacity and tough marking, is clearly getting rid of all the samba-ing and glorious stylish play of Brazil to shape it in a more European style which is based on a solid defense and fast counterattacks. The proof is the new Brazilian squad for the World Cup 2010 itself which left out stars like Ronaldinho, Adriano and Ronaldo.

Maicon says:

 - “I want to be a champion — whether or not Brazil turn on the jogo bonito,”

- “Whether you turn on the style or play ugly, the important thing is that come July 11, Brazil are in the final,”

Kaka adds:

 - “This national team is well-balanced, and that’s very important in a football team”

- “We have some of the best defenders in the world, a strong midfield, and strikers who can be decisive at any moment. Whether we play well will vary from match to match. The biggest show will be to be lifting the trophy at the end. That’s the spectacle we want.”

Now, will the new world cup 2010 Brazil team be a new era for the Brazilian football? Can Brazil win a 6th World Cup and confirm that indeed a new generation of players will at least continue what the predecessors have been taking home, the Golden World Cup!?

Diego Maradona, aka El Diego, is surely the coach who touches the ball more than any other world cup coaches in this World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Perhaps that’s because of his deep passion, or fascination, for the foot-’ball’ ?
