The Barcelona Forward Lionel Messi Will Not Play For Argentina Against Glasgows - World Cup 2010 Friendly Matches
It all started when Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, allowed Lionel Messi to play for the Olympic Games under the sole condition that he would be rested for friendly matches this year 2008.
To honour Joan Laporta’s decision, El Diego will not include Messi in the Argentina squad for the match against Scotland, Glasgow for the World Cup 2010 friendly match.
Diego Maradona said:
- “Messi is not in the list out of respect to Barcelona”
- “When we met ‘AFA president Julio Grondona, the verbal agreement was already set.
- “Laporta was a gentleman by letting him play the Olympic Games so we decided to let him stay in Barcelona for this match. If Barcelona finally let him play, he will be included in the list.”
